Reception of goods
Goods can be delivered to Doens Food Ingredients in bags, big bags or in bulk, and are transported by ship or by truck. Every incoming product is thorougly checked.

Bulk storage
Many tons of product can be held in silos in our own facility. Further capacity is rented in major harbors across Europe. All silos are carefully monitored for moisture content, temperature and infestation. If one of these parameters is not within acceptable ranges, swift action is taken to keep the stock in good condition.

Cleaning
If necessary, cleaning of the products is done by separating on differences in size (seaves, drum graders), specific weight (gravity separator, destoner), or structure (table separator). Our experienced staff is equipped with a vast pool of machinery to do their job. Three cleaning lines are in a fixed configuration while other machinery can be used in a flexible way in order to obtain optimal cleaning results. While DFI processes a wide range of products, the most economical and flexible way for internal transport is the use of pallet boxes. An additional advantage of this system is the reduction of damage risks during other ways of transport.

Sorting
Further sorting of our products is done by a state-of-the-art colour sorter which picks out the defects, whether these are foreign bodies, broken products or products with colour defects.

Our rating ‘colour sorted’ is famous for its high grade of reliability. We are able to process a wide range of products with this colour sorter. From brown beans to mustard seed and from sesame seed to pumpkin seeds!

Products are led through a laser beam by a fast moving conveyor belt. Several thousands of times per second a camera screens the products. If a product is not within preset limits, the product is rejected and separated by a puff of air. Both approved and rejected products are gently conveyed to a storage bunker, where they are ready for further processing. For instance, at a later point, with a different process, real useless product can be separated from usable product with colour defect. Product with different colour is not by definition useless.

Processing
The product can be processed further by grinding, milling and roasting. The production facility is equipped with good, solid machinery which can be deployed in a flexible processing line. Continuous efforts are made in order to improve hygiene and efficiency.

Packaging
A wide variety of packaging is available. We can fill consumer packs of 500 grams, paper bags from 10 to 25 kg’s, big bags, container bags, bulk trucks, trains and ships! Every shipment is checked for metal before leaving the IJzendijke plant.

Storage
Storage of products is essential for short lead times. All cleaned and sorted products ready for shipment are stored in our cooled, insulated warehouse. Thousands of pallets of finished goods can be stored in this state-of-the-art warehouse with a storage capacity of approximately 1900 euro-pallets, with six pallet locations from floor to roof and drive-ways of 3 metres wide. With a sophisticated air conditioning system, we can monitor the storage temperature and humidify or dry the air, according to the pre-set storage conditions. The system is set at a storage temperature of 12o C and 65% relative humidity.
